In a famous card game in the Levant called "Baasra" (باصرة), you gain points by winning some specific cards, and also by winning the most number of cards. The game being a 2 player game, you may reach a stage, where both players have gathered the same number of cards i.e. 26 cards each (the deck of cards being 52 cards).
In such a situation, we would say: "el wara2 boot" (الورق بوط), meaning both players ended up with exactly the same number of cards each.
The word "Boot" (بوط) is of unknown origin.

Bi Zenn 3ala Kharaab 3esho - بزن على خراب عشه . Levant Slang. Bi Zenn is a verb usually attributed to the sound a bee makes while flying. Kharaab 3esho means the destruction of its hive or nest. It literally means (the bee)'s buzz led to the destruction of its hive or nest.
Metaphorically, this is very similar to the English expression "to shoot yourself in the foot", or "ask for trouble".

Literally means 'hit by the wire'. An expression used to refer to someone who is crazy or mentally unstable.
Other variations are "Metar2a3" (مطرأع) or "Lasse3" (لاسع) or "3ando fuse dareb" (ضارب fuse عندو). The origin of these variations all refer to the state of having a non-functioning section of the brain. Also used as a figure of speech to express that someone's actions are very much out of the norm and unexpected. |
