Daily Slang

Dakhlak...? - دخلك...؟

Lebanese slang that cannot be literally translated.  It actually is very similar to saying "listen..." in English when you want to grab someone's attention, it could also mean "by the way".  Almost invariably followed by a question, but could also be used to support a plea, something like "I beg you", or please.

Sample conversation 1:

Person 1: Dakhlak...

Person 2: yes, what's up?

Person 1: What car did you end up buying?

Person 2: I still have not made up my mind...

Sample conversation 2:

***Example needed to illustrate the expression when used as a "plea"****

Egyptian Slang: Literaly means "Strong" used as Cool. The use of this termwas usually combined with another word to stress the coolness (e.g. [Gamed Gedan = Very Cool], [Gamed Ta7n = Crushing Cool], [Gamed Fa7t = Earth digging cool] and other R rated combinations Smile)

Recently in addition to the above, it is used alone to address a cool person just like dude or bro in English.

Sample conversation 1:

Person 1: Did you go to the new Cafe by the beach?

Person 2: Yeah man! I loved it Gamed Fa7t

Sample conversation 2:

Person 1: Hey bro!

Person 2: Hi ya Gamed How is it going?
