Daily Slang

Vu!

'Vu" is a word in french, was often used on homework assignments in lebanese french schools to mean "noted" or "reviewed", particularly on homework assignments which did not require any grading.  However, this word got into the lebanese day to day young population slang in the end of the 90's, to express agreement to a subject, understanding or simply noting of a remark.  If you are a fan of slang language, "Vu" is in fact very close to "Mesh Ghalat".

 Sample conversation:

Person 1: "What do you say we go to the beach today?"

Person 2: "Vu, great idea"

Literal Translation: "If your Heart is made of Stone, my Heart is a Bulldozer!"

This expression belongs to street slang and is commonly used by young men to express their fondness to a young woman in a very unelegant manner. It somewhat has a sarcastic connotation and reflects the uncharming manners of said young men trying to imply that the strength of their love and their persistence can overcome the fiercest denial.

Sample Conversation:

Person 1: "Rose, don't you understand that I will never hurt you!"

Person 2: "Nawfal, I already told you - over and over again -that I have been through so much, I am unable to fall in love ever again! Please stop making so many efforts, they're worthless!"

Person 1: "We'll see ya Rose! "Iza 2albik Min 7ajar, Ana 2albeh Jerrafeh"! "
