Daily Slang

Oum Ya... - ...قوم يا

"Oum Ya... / ...قوم يا" - Lebanese Slang - Literally means "Get up you...".  Used towards someone who is over-exaggerating or lying.  Similar to the english dismissing expression "yeah whatever".

Sample conversation:

Person 1: "I managed to lose 20 kilos in one month"

Person 2: "Oum Ya... (قوم يا)"

Person 1: "seriously, and then he went on about how he's been promoted and has a team of 100 people reporting to him now!"

Person 2 (disbelievingly): "illo eh man, illo eh..."

In English means: "we taught you how to beg, and now you got to the doors before us".  It is used to tell someone that he/she mastered a task/job more than the one who taught him/her how to do it. e.g.:

Person 1: "Did you follow my advice for online dating"?
Person 2: Oh yeah! I went out with 3 hot chicks last week"
Person 1: "what ? I only dated one in a month! it seems 3allamnek 3al sh7edeh, saba2tna 3al bweb!"
