Daily Slang

Sawfaro 3asafir me3deteh

"Sawfaro 3asafir me3deteh" - Lebanese Slang - translates literally as "the birds in my stomach are whistling", to insinuate a great hunger... as if there were starving birds in one's stomach who are chanting for their mom to feed them, with open beaks!

Sample Conversation:

Person 1: let's go eat at McDonald's

Person 2: I think we'd better go to Burger King

Person 3: No, I think that...

Person 4: (interrupting): GUYS, please make up your mind... sawfaro 3asafir me3edteh... actually, one of them just died...

"Oum Ya... / ...قوم يا" - Lebanese Slang - Literally means "Get up you...".  Used towards someone who is over-exaggerating or lying.  Similar to the english dismissing expression "yeah whatever".

Sample conversation:

Person 1: "I managed to lose 20 kilos in one month"

Person 2: "Oum Ya... (قوم يا)"

Person 1: "seriously, and then he went on about how he's been promoted and has a team of 100 people reporting to him now!"

Person 2 (disbelievingly): "illo eh man, illo eh..."
